The Cake Room by Skeltons, Hessle

The Skelton family tradition

Brothers. Bakers. Cake makers.

The Cake Room was conceived by brothers Richard and Philip Skelton. Their long family tradition as independent bakers, combined with a passion for beautiful cake design, led them to open The Cake Room at 4 The Square in Hessle.

For decades, the people of Hessle and East Yorkshire have trusted us with their most important celebrations — weddings, christenings, birthdays, and everything in between. That trust is something we never take for granted.

We make the finest celebration cakes in East Yorkshire.

Out on the road, every single day

Long before The Cake Room existed, Skeltons & Son were already a familiar sight on the streets of Hull and Hessle — a proper fleet of liveried delivery vans, out from dawn, carrying fresh bread and bakes to shops and doorsteps across the area. It was a serious operation for its time, built entirely on the same principle we still hold to today: bake it properly, and get it to people fresh.

A name the whole town knew

Skeltons wasn't just a bakery — it was part of the fabric of the town. Staff dressed up and built entire parade floats for the local carnival, proudly carrying the Skeltons name through the streets in front of the whole community. That's the kind of business it was: known by name, trusted by generations, and never shy about celebrating alongside the people it served.

The Same Corner, A New Name

Still baking, still in Hessle

Today, that same family tradition continues as The Cake Room by Skeltons — still independent, still hand-making everything on the premises, and still doing it in Hessle. The vans and the carnival floats may be history now, but the standard they set is exactly what we hold ourselves to every single day.
